It’s with a very heavy heart that I type this post. My friend, John Senne, passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis this morning. John turned 92 this past June.

When Views from the Coop was still a traditional radio show, John was my guest on the very last show that was broadcast. I want to repost that entry here in honor of John.

John Senne, My Hero!Cluck and I talked to John Senne this morning about his adventures with computers that started when he was a young man of 70 (he’s 90 now). He’s living proof that you’re never too old to embrace technology. John is quite the Renaissance man. He’s owned over 10 different computers since he started using them in the 1980’s. He was finally able to get online in the 1990’s with Rollanet when he and his wife, Elaine, moved to Rolla from Shannon county in Missouri. Listening to John brought back memories of my own early experimentation with computers, programming and the Internet. If you don’t listen to any other podcast I do, LISTEN TO THIS ONE!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Today was the second (and probably last) broadcast of Views from the Coop online at KTTR. I have previously been on KTTR as a community service program but the rules have changed. The station owners do not want any unpaid programming on the weekends so unless I’m willing to pay an advertising fee for the time I’m on the air, I can’t be on the air. When I started back on the air with the station after Roger retired PC Primer, I made it very clear that I was more than willing to accept a sponsor for the show but one never materialized. I understand that airtime is valuable and that informational shows like Views from the Coop do not add revenue to the station without some type of paid sponsorship. I hate to give up the Saturday morning show but am unable to pay the advertising fee myself, so unless I can find a willing sponsor, today was the last show. Thanks to everyone who has supported me while I have been on the radio and I hope that I have been able to provide good information as well as entertainment for the listeners. I will miss my two co-hosts, Lee and Ray, but most of all, I will miss sharing news and views with all of you.
