Episode 57: Our Tech Plans for 2008
February 7, 2008
Now that you know all about the cool tools and resources we used in 2007, I know you’re wondering how we plan to follow that up with our 2008 plans. You’ll discover that many of our 2008 plans require using the great resources we discovered during 2007. Are you ready? Here they are (in no particular order):
Kim has already told you about Alex Mandossian and his Teleseminar Secrets series, so it’s no surprise that her top priority for 2008 is to produce her own teleseminar series. Her topic? Blogging and podcasting, of course…and don’t be surprised if a little chicki chicki makes and appearance, too.
I’ve become a strong supporter of blogging and podcasting myself over the last couple of years. What I haven’t done is incorporate video. Funny, but it took Diezelfitter to make me realize just how important video can in getting a message across. I’ve always been involved in training but not online. I invested in Camtasia, a desktop recording/editing program, so that I can start creating my own video training sessions during 2008. I also hope to integrate video into this blog.
OK, we already know that Kim HATES audio editing and I really enjoy it. It’s one of those things that makes us so compatible. Something else she hates that I can also relate to is ACCOUNTING. That’s not to say she can’t handle her money. She just has a hard time “accounting” for it. In 2008, she plans to take advantage of Microsoft Office Accounting to start keeping better records for her multiple business endeavors…and believe me, when I say multiple, I mean multiple! Luckily for her, she’s participated as a BETA tester for Microsoft in the past and has collected several MS Office programs for her time and Microsoft Accounting is one that she plans to spend some time learning and using this year.
As you know, VFTC has been a proud member of the Tech Podcast Network since 2006. Both our show and TPN has grown over the last couple of years and sad to say, I haven’t taken complete advantage of the benefits that come with being a TPN member. I learn a lot from being a part of the TPN Google group and have met plenty of tekkies, most of which are WAY more tekkie than I am (or even want to be). There are over 90 member shows now, so the opportunity to network and promote each other is always there. During 2008, I plan to participate more fully in TPN and take advantage of the many benefits the network offers (affiliate programs and promo exchanges to name a few). I’d like to take a few words here to personally thank Angelo Mandato, CIO of Raw Voice (owner of TPN) for taking his valuable time to work out a problem VFTC was having with using the TPN stats. I know he’s a very busy man and the fact that he took the time to talk to me personally and work through the problem says a lot about him, Raw Voice and TPN. Thanks, Angelo!!
Kim sprung one on me…she plans to develop her online TV broadcasting station! I didn’t even know she had one. You can bet you’ll be hearing more about that one as we move into 2008!
I’ve heard about them since the first one in Boston during 2006: Podcamps. In 2008, I wanna go to one! Podcamp isn’t like the kind of camp I attended as a child…no sleeping bags or cabins and it’s not outside. In fact, having an internet connection is vital to the success of any podcamp. If you’re someone who is interested in learning about blogging, podcasting and new media in general and you’d like to meet other folks who share that interest, then podcamp is the place to go. There’s one coming up in Kansas City, which is in my general area, but it’s in February! Having lived in Missouri for almost a dozen years, and actually living in KC the first 2, I can’t think of any reason why someone would want to be there during February….so I’m not planning to attend that one, but Angelo’s hosting one in Ohio during June, a much more inviting time of the year to travel!
As you already know, Kim has her fingers in a lot of pies…business pies. This year, one of her top priorities is to redesign her business. She’s learned a lot from Alex and has been pursuing various joint ventures with colleagues like Leesa Barnes, so she’s ready to make her business “new media” ready! I think she can do it, too. I only hope I can keep up!
Speaking of the Blog Queen, I’ve decided that I want to be a Blog Princess. Meeting and getting to know Kim during 2007 has been quite an experience. That woman sure doesn’t let any moss grow under her feet. Before I met her, I was a casual Blogger user. Then, Kim introduced me to WordPress. Not only did she introduce me to WordPress, she actually created this blog for Views from the Coop! Kim has helped untold numbers of people learn to use WordPress and has also started to learn about and use other CMS (content management system) resources like Drupal. She’s got me hooked…what can I say. Even though she’s the queen, she’s taken the time to teach me what she knows and groom me for my goal of becoming…..Blog Princess!
Since we barely let George get a word in edgewise during out hour-long discussion of 2007 and 2008, we had to give him the chance to share his goals for 2008. His first? To get Kim to do a One Minute How-To for his podcast! OK, Kim, I guess you’d better get to work…! He’d also like to take some steps to monetize the OMHT podcast. Business aside, George want to make it to Scotland this year (no, he promises he WON’T be wearing a kilt) and spend more time learning about various photo processes so he can re-design his personal photo site, www.glsmyth.com. You’ve got to check it out. I’ve spent a lot of time surfing through the gorgeous photos George has collected.
So, that pretty much wraps up our goodby to 2007 and hello to 2008. We’ll have to revisit out goals at the end of this year to see just how well we managed to “stay the course” and we certainly hope you’ll still be with us!
