Blogging for Realtors!
April 10, 2007
I had lunch today with a room full of realtors and their guests from the South Central Board of Realtors (SCBR). Margaret Warren of RE/MAX, Heart of America in Rolla sent me an e-mail a couple of weeks ago after she heard me talking about this blog on Views from the Coop On-the-Air and asked if I’d speak to the SCBOR at their April luncheon meeting and tell them more about blogging. I readily agreed and today was the day.
Margaret told me that she’d attended a recent meeting at which several of the realtors there had their own blogs. She even agreed to be my “guinea blogger” and show everyone at the monthly meeting how to set up their own blog. Unfortunately, we got our wires crossed and neither of us brought our laptops. I did get to share some good information with the group, however, and just like I do with my radio and podcast audiences, I wanted to post a summary along with the resources I used so anyone who is interested can check those resources out.
If you’re looking for a good description of blogging, look no further than Wikipedia. Once you have a good idea what a blog is, then you may be interested in creating your own. The coolest thing about blogs is that you can find plenty of FREE ones online. I started my first blog on Blogger. I did find a great list of free blog hosting sites on Listable.com. If you like this blog, you might want to check out Wordpress.
Since this group part of the realty industry, I also checked out resources for blogs specific to them. I discovered a book called Realty Blogging by Richard Nacht and Paul Chaney that is supposed to cover all the bases for realty specific blogging. I found the book on Amazon.com. It’s pretty inexpensive and worth buying if you’re serious about how to get started with realty blogging.
I want to thank Margaret for inviting me and hope she has her own blog to share with us soon! BTW: Lunch at Zeno’s was delicious!
